The short version: the camera picture never leaves your phone.

1Camera

Brushee asks for the front camera, and uses it only while a brushing session is running.

  • What it sees: the camera picture and the child's brushing motion.
  • Why: to find the face and the toothbrush, so the app can say which area to brush next and for how long.
  • Where it is processed: entirely on your device, by an on-device machine-learning model (MediaPipe). Frames are analysed in memory and then discarded.
  • What leaves the device: nothing. Frames are never recorded, never saved, never uploaded. The app does not have the internet permission, so it is technically incapable of sending them anywhere.

You can decline the camera at first launch and revoke it at any time in Android Settings. Without it, the live guidance is unavailable but the app still works.

2What we do NOT collect

  • Camera images, video, face landmarks, or any derived facial data.
  • Location data.
  • Advertising identifiers (no advertising ID is requested or used).
  • Analytics, crash reports, or usage telemetry.
  • Your name, email address, phone number or account credentials — Brushee has no accounts and no sign-in.
  • Any device identifier (we do not read ANDROID_ID, IMEI, MAC address or similar).

We have no servers. Nothing about your child is transmitted to us or to anyone else.

3What is stored on your device

Brushee saves a small amount of data locally on your phone only:

WhatWhy
Child's nicknameTo greet the child and label their progress
Child's ageTo pick the right parent-facing tip after brushing
Toothbrush type (manual / electric)To tune the motion-tracking sensitivity
Brushing history (date, duration, star count, per-area coverage)To build the progress report and streaks
Reminder times, voice and language preferencesTo make the app behave the way you set it
Whether an unlock code has been redeemedSo you don't have to enter it again

This is kept in the app's private storage. Other apps cannot read it.

System backup

Android can include app data in your phone's own backup (to your Google Drive), or in a device-to-device transfer when you change phones. This is a feature of your operating system, not something Brushee does — the data goes to your Google account, under your control, and we never see it. You can turn it off in Android Settings → System → Backup.

Only the data listed in the table above is included. Camera data never is, because none is ever stored in the first place.

Deleting it: open Settings → Child → Delete to remove a child's profile and history, or uninstall the app to erase everything at once. To also clear what went into a system backup, remove Brushee from your Google Drive backup in Android Settings.

4Subscriptions and payments

Brushee offers an optional subscription. All payment is handled by Google Play.

  • We never see or receive your name, email address, card details, or any other payment information.
  • The app asks Google Play whether a valid subscription exists. It receives only a yes/no answer — it cannot identify who you are.
  • Google's handling of your payment data is governed by Google's Privacy Policy.
  • You can view, manage or cancel your subscription at any time in Google Play → Subscriptions.

The app holds the com.android.vending.BILLING permission, which is what allows it to ask Google Play about your subscription. This does not grant the app internet access.

5Notifications

If you set brushing reminders, Brushee schedules a local notification at those times. Reminders are generated on the device; nothing is sent anywhere.

6Children's privacy

Brushee is designed for children aged 6–12 and is meant to be set up by a parent or guardian.

Because the app collects no personal information and transmits nothing off the device, there is no personal data for us — or anyone else — to hold about a child. The nickname, age and brushing history stay on your phone. We do not show advertising, we do not build profiles, and we do not share data with third parties.

Subscription settings and any unlock code are entered by an adult, behind a parental gate.

7Third-party components

Brushee uses these libraries, all running entirely on-device:

  • CameraX — camera capture.
  • MediaPipe Tasks Vision (Google) — on-device face and hand landmark detection.
  • Google Play Billing (Google) — asking Google Play whether a subscription is active.

None of them sends data anywhere on our behalf, and the app declares no internet permission.
